Simply Piste is getting very excited that the new skiing season is just around the corner, and as for the first fall 2010 collection, it has arrived in the form of Columbia!

Veho Muvi Turns Into Squidio

Did anybody see the latest Gadget Show this week? Ortis Deley and Jason Bradbury had a challenge to product the best gadget toy.

Ortis designed two robots which could fight each other. The robots had cameras in there heads and if you put on the glasses which came with them you could see through the robots eyes and tackle your opponent head on.

Jason designed the Squidio which was a action cam for kids. He wanted to make a robust, easy-to-use camcorder with housing that could fit securely to anything and most of all look pretty funky so kids would love it.

The Squidio (which gets it’s name from the many legs you can use to strap it on to anything) used the Veho Muvi Camcorder in it, probably because it is the smallest video camera you can get and it is robust .

Two toy experts were the judges, and we are very happy to say that Jason won the challenge with the Squidio which we think is a pretty cool toy for kids. They can take it anywhere with them, the skate park, skiing, biking and on their holiday’s.

Season’s Not Quite Over Yet!

If you want to escape for some Piste fun this Easter then you can. Why not head to the fantastic ski resort in Laax, Switzerland which still has lots of snow and is open until the 18th April! So that we can meet the demand for sledges we have got some new ones in from Super Tramp to try and keep up with all this snow we’re having. Isn’t it a little late I hear you say? Well we don’t think so, we have had snow quite early this year but it has been known to snow up until even Easter before, and if it doesn’t then you will be prepared for next year!

This new brand, Red, was built out of love for snowboarding and a dislike for head injuries! Red provide us with stylish helmets with superb fit, function and technology which engages riders.

SmartWool

Firstly we have SmartWool who offer a great range of skiing socks for all. The founders were ski instructors trying to keep their feet warm and so they put together their first pair of woolen socks and improved them from there making them comfortable on the skin and easy to care for, and most of all to keep their toes warm! SmartWool have a great range, which look fabulous, bright funky colours and patterns as well as traditional styles.

Red

Due soon we have Red ski and snowboard helmets to protect you as much as possible this ski season; some come with Redphones that fit into the ear pads of the helmet so you can listen to your favourite tunes when you're on the slopes.

Check Out These Airboards!

Airboards are a seriously cool addition to our range at Simply Piste! They're a great alternative to skiing and snowboarding and they look like great fun. Check out this video:

Airboards are durable, despite being inflatable and are constructed from a coated nylon, with the X or extended series being both corrosion and mould resistant (which is handy when there's no snow about and they need to be stored). Rather than the under side being grazed along the ground each Airboard actually has runners and or reinforced material that prevents the event of a puncture (and a repair kit is included just in case).

Airboards can reach up to 80kph and can be used for jumps so it's best to hold on and use knee protection. The Freeride 180 is for taller adults and the Classic 130 is for shorter adults and children over 14. Amazingly there is even a board for kids under 14; the Kids Classic 50 so the whole family can enjoy the body boarding adrenaline rush.

Bridgedale Ski Socks Now In!

Check out the Bridgedale Ski Socks which are now in stock and are specifically designed for Ski and Snowboard wear. Not only do they look great and trendy but they have some great features too; for example the Heel Fit Socks have extra cushioning around the heel to give improved comfort when wearing ski boots all day, whereas the Precision Fit has a cushioned shin pad for added protection.
Rather than being a unisex sock, Bridgedale recognise that womens feet are actually a different shape (and size!) from mens and therefore require a slimmer fit around the ankle which supports the instep and ankle during snow sports.

As the new skiing and snowboarding season is just around the corner (I know it’s hard to think about winter when the sun is still shining!) we have got some new brands arriving at Simply Piste as well as new collections from your old favourites.

Due towards the end of the month we have the latest collections from Columbia and Westbeach arriving. We will keep you posted when they arrive. But you can expect your usual great quality and on trend skiwear from both these brands.

New brands arriving in September at Simply Piste are Red and Anon. Red have cool helmets and ski protection to offer as well as audio equipment for on the slopes. Solar Cabin Provides Climbers Retreat

Amazing new Swiss cabin provides light to lost travellers.

This amazing lodge has been erected high up in the Swiss Alps near the resort of Zermatt. Which is near the treacherous Matterhorn.

This building is no normal resort though, it is made of out mirrors and acts as a beacon, belting out a signal to lost skiers and explorers.

Its also exceptionally green, it generates 90% of its own energy mostly from Solar panels. Environmental it might be, they had little choice as its miles from any power lines.

Now that the ski season is finally coming round its time to start our blog up. I thought I would start by mentioning a product that is essential for skiing this winter. The Ski Angel shin and leg protector which eliminates rubbing and chafing from your boots and socks.

"If you have ever experienced shin pain and bruising you know how it can ruin your precious week's skiing. Ski angel is a thin pad of revolutionary friction reducing gel. When placed under the sock ski angel prevents 'shin bite' and bruising caused by your shin rubbing against the boot's inner lining. Ski Angel is a sheet of bonded gel which when placed over the projecting tibial crest effectively removes the friction zone 2mm outwards and away from the skin surface."
